For over 100 years, Bruce customers have trusted us to provide beautiful, long-lasting hardwood floors and stylish, durable laminate floors. As the industry’s leading North American hardwood flooring manufacturer, Armstrong (Bruce is an Armstrong brand) has a vested interest in protecting the forests where our raw materials come from. Over 90% of our volume is manufactured here in the U.S. using local raw materials, enhancing the sustainability of our national hardwoods. Our strategy requires that we protect the communities where we extract, process, and manufacture our wood products. Our goal is to support sustainable forest management practices globally, including planting trees to replenish what we harvest.

High quality floors start with high quality materials and most of our hardwood volume is grown in the Appalachian Mountain range. The wood harvested from this area is known for its clear grain, consistent color, and excellent stability. Over 70% of our wood products are made from premium and select grade hardwood to ensure we produce floors with fewer streaks, knots, and flaws.

At Bruce, Craftsmanship is vital. We focus on maximizing quality, not volume. Our milling processes produce straighter, flatter boards that fit together precisely, with fewer gaps between boards. Our high tech production lines ensure stain colors are consistent through every cycle. Our finishing systems achieve the perfect balance between showing the beauty of the hardwood and protecting it from wear. Our rigorous inspections, featuring up to 75 checkpoints, guarantee that each strip and plank of Bruce hardwood flooring has passed our highest quality standards.

Bruce's ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING is built in layers, which makes it more resistant to changes in temperatures and humidity than solid wood, and it can be installed in any room of the home. Our engineered wood flooring is certified as a low-emitting (low VOC) wood product.

    • Board-to-Board Color Variation:  Wood is a natural material that features changes in color and tone. The board-to-board color variation is more pronounced in some species, less in others. If you like the look of contrasting light and dark tones, select a species that offers "most" color variation. If you prefer consistent color from board to board, choose the "least" color variation. On a color variation scale of 1-3, with 1 being "least", 2 being "more", and 3 being "most"... BIRCH has a color variation score of 2 and HICKORY has a color variation score of 3.
    • Hardness Scale:  The density/hardness of wood varies from species to species and it impacts its wear performance and its ability to withstand foot traffic, children and pets. On a hardness scale from 1-10, with 1 being the "softest" and 10 being the "hardest", BIRCH has a hardness scale score of 3 and HICKORY has a hardness scale score of 5.  [Note: The strong & resilient wood species Oak is used as the industry benchmark with a hardness scale of 4.]
